To connect your trucks to the skateboard, you would need bolts and locknuts.
We call this set of bolts and nuts as skateboard hardware or mounting hardware.
Usually, hardware is sold in sets of eight as each truck would need four pairs. There may be some instances of rusty or stripped parts and you would need to change only some pairs of hardware and not all of them. You may visit a regular hardware store and ask for specific sizes of bolts for your skateboard.
Many use the term ‘bolt’ interchangeably with ‘screw’. Let’s clarify the difference so you don’t buy the wrong one.
Bolts and screws both have a threading and are used for fastening together two or more things.
However, a bolt comes with a nut and has a smooth end. Screws function alone and have a sharp edge.
Bolts are tightened by the nut but screws are tightened by an internal thread to where it is inserted.
With that said, ask for bolts and nuts instead of screws. (2 piece set not the single)
The hardware size varies with the skate deck style.
Most shortboards require the standard hardware of 1” or an inch. For longboards and cruisers, 1 1/8” is good.
However, if you are considering on adding risers or shock pads, you would need longer bolts.
Below is our suggested length of hardware according to the thickness of the risers you plan to use.
7/8” to 1” hardware -> no risers needed
1” to 1 1/8” hardware –> if you will use 1/8” riser
1 1/4” hardware -> if you will use 1/4” riser
1 1/2” hardware -> if you will use 1/2” riser
